Additional Ceremony Elements

For any ceremony I normally write between 2000 and 4000 words. And this is all about you and your story. However there are lots of different ways to show and celebrate your love to those around you. Below are some additional ceremony elements you can choose from, you can do one, a few or all of them if you fancy! And if there’s something you want to do that isn’t below just get in touch, and we can have a chat! I love finding new ways to celebrate!

*For some additional elements the cost of resources will be charged, but don’t worry I’ll let you know the cost before you choose to add it to your ceremony.

  • Hand Fasting

Hand Fasting is an ancient Celtic tradition. Couple’s hands are bound with ribbons or cords, symbolising their union and commitment. Often considered the origin of the phrase "tying the knot”.

  • Certificate Signing

A Ceremony certificate is signed and presented before/during or after the ceremony, signed by family, friends and the couple and is presented as a keepsake from the wedding day.

  • Unity Candle

The couple each lights a candle, then together use them to ignite a central candle, representing their unity while honoring their individuality. This meaningful tradition can also include family members

  • Ring Warming

Guests pass the wedding rings around, offering silent blessings and love before they are exchanged.

  • Blessing Stones/Feathers.

Guests hold stones and send well wishes, which the couple keeps as a keepsake.

  • First and Last Kiss

involving the parents of the couple, they gave them their first kiss and are now invited to give them their last kiss before they commit to the other person.

  • Sand Ceremony

Representing the blending of their lives. The couple or family pour different colours of sand into one vessel. Just as the grains of sand can never be separated, the sand ceremony signifies unity and love. A great addition as children and other family members can be involved.

  • Love letters/Wine Bottle/ Time Capsule

the couple writes love letters to each other and seals them, or chooses a bottle of wine to be placed in a box and agreed to be opened on a significant anniversary together. This also works perfectly for a naming ceremony, putting keepsakes and letters into a time capsule to be opened on a significant birthday.

  • First Pop

Cork signing and toast - the couple choose a bottle (champs or prosec) to be popped and shared during the ceremony, symbolising the joy and celebration they will bring to their partnership. A toast led by the celebrant is incorporated into this, the couple can then sign the cork and have as a keepsake and memory from the ceremony.

  • Canvas Painting

On a canvas each guest is invited to finger print their thumb or finger as a reminder of all the people who have come together to support the couple and witness their commitment to each other (wipes provided)
